For our second full day, and also our last, in Vienna, our class activities included a visit to one of the premier museums in the world and later a tour of one of Mozart’s apartments. There are actually two identical museums built across from another, one concerning natural history and the other a collection of art from several time periods and locations, these were built by Maria Teresa, the only female rulers of the Hapsburg dominion. In the art museums there are collections from ancient Greece and Rome as well as Egypt and of course Austria. We spent the better part of three hours exploring the museum. While it has nothing to do with our classes I found the ancient Egypt collection to be the most interesting, I was surprised at the vastness of the collection. After visiting the museum we had about half an hour break, during which I got the other German food I had yet the cross off my list, sausage. Like wiener schnitzel it was everything I hoped it would be. Our next stop was meant to be at the Church of Saint Michael because it is possible to tour the crypt beneath the church, but unfortunately we found out that we were too late for the tour. But we were still able to walk around the inside of the church which had some incredible art work. After that it was off to our last stop, Mozart’s apartment, during the tour I learned a lot about the famous composer and his relative short life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Most of us ended our evening by heading out to small family run restaurant a couple blocks from our hotel, like everything else in Europe it seems the restaurant has been open for over one hundred years. We got a family style meal which was the prefect for a group of fifteen people, we all got a little bit of everything. This was a great way to end our time in Vienna. I just wish that we were in Vienna for a couple more days, our time here has just felt really rushed, there is so much of the city that I have yet to see. But either way it is off to Budapest tomorrow morning.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
