As I mentioned in my last post the first half of the train ride was by far the more enjoyable half for me.\u00a0 After celebrating another birthday I went to bed, now the sleeping cars are much nicer for overnight train rides than just single seats, but the beds were not designed for tall people.\u00a0 The bed was a little over six feet long which made it really difficult to find a comfortable position.\u00a0 I managed to get four hours of sleep over the course of about six hours.\u00a0 Needless to say I was really tired after not getting much sleep last night either.\u00a0 But the view from the train in the morning as we sped away from the Alps was incredible, Austria truly is a beautiful country.\u00a0 About an hour and a half after I got up we were in Vienna.\u00a0 After taking a couple of different metro routes we arrived at our hotel which was in the outskirts of Vienna in a relatively quiet part of the city, we spent the next couple of hours checking in to our rooms and getting lunch.<\/p>\n
In the afternoon we had a tour of downtown Vienna, this included a stops at the Cathedral of Saint Stephen and the Opera House.\u00a0 The Cathedral was an immense Gothic Cathedral in the heart of Vienna, it is possible to go to the top of one of the towers of the church which offers a great view of Vienna.\u00a0 From up there I was taken aback by the size of the city, it just seemed like there were buildings as far as the eye could see.<\/p>\n
In the evening we went out to a restaurant near our hotel were I got my first traditional German dish, wiener schnitzel, and it was everything I hoped that it would be.\u00a0 After dinner we went out to celebrate the last of the four birthdays in six days at an Irish bar.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
