Reflecting on our Time in Paradise

We spent much of our last full day in Anguilla soaking up the sun and playing in the ocean (now that the waves have calmed significantly). The waves were the perfect height and break for body surfing (check out the video in the gallery) which made for a fun way to cool down during the heat of the day. Although Jay may have gotten a little too much sun while he was in the water.

After lunch on the beach we walked down to the end of Meads Bay where there is a secluded cove. We enjoyed watching the waves break against the beach without another soul in sight. For dinner we went back to Straw Hat (we went there on our first night) and again enjoyed a fantastic meal.

As tomorrow will largely be a day of travel this will be our final blog post for this trip. Our day of relaxation today allowed us to reflect on what has been a wonderful getaway in the Caribbean. Anguilla perfectly represents the laidback Caribbean vibe. The people are so kind and friendly and world events are of little consequence on this island paradise. Our experience with both rental cars is a great example of the laidback nature of these islands. To return the cars there is no meeting with the agency, instead, we parked the cars in public lots and left them unlocked with the keys above the visor!

The island itself is largely unspoiled due to the limited number of flights arriving each day (although that looks to be changing the in future due to the ongoing airport expansion). The beaches are picturesque, the water beautifully clear and roads free of traffic. If you want to experience the best of the Caribbean without the crowds, this is the place to go, but do it soon before the island opens up to more visitors!

Thanks for sharing this journey with us!
